Description
Barolo Monprivato is a red wine classified as Barolo DOCG. It is produced in the Langhe area of Piedmont, where the Nebbiolo grape variety has been cultivated for time immemorial. This exceptionally high-quality wine, named after its creator, Giulia Colbert Falletti, Marchioness of Barolo, began being produced in the 19th century. The Giuseppe Mascarello e figlio winery boasts a long history in the winemaking sector, having begun working in this sector in the service of the Marchioness of Barolo and later setting up its own business. Barolo Monprivato is produced exclusively with Nebbiolo grapes from the vineyard of the same name, which has existed since the 17th century. This vineyard faces southwest at an altitude of 280 meters and enjoys excellent sunlight. The soil is silty and calcareous, rich in active limestone, composed of marine marl. The training system used is Guyot. Barolo Monprivato is produced only in exceptional years, while in less-than-optimal years, the grapes from this particular vineyard are used to produce other wines. Barolo Monprivato is marketed with a numbered signature label. Harvest takes place in mid-October and is done exclusively by hand. After pressing, the must is fermented for 20-26 days with the cap exposed. The wine is then transferred to Slavonian oak barrels, where it ages for at least another 30 months.
