Description
What kind of wine is it
Hugel Classic Pinot Noir is a still red wine that expresses Alsace through an authentic interpretation of Pinot Noir. The bouquet reveals distinct aromas of cherry, kirsch and small red fruits, accompanied by subtle notes of fresh tobacco. On the palate, it is harmonious, with a smooth tannic structure that leads to a well-structured and not overly dry finish. This balance makes it ideal to pair with meat-based dishes, cheeses and game.
Where does it come from
The grapes are grown in the renowned soils around Riquewihr. The vines thrive on clay and limestone soils, which are essential for imparting freshness and solidity to the taste. The Hugel winery prioritises agricultural excellence through selective manual harvesting and low yields to concentrate the aromas. This agronomic care enhances the integrity of the raw material, clearly expressing the character of the Alsatian region.
How is it produced
The process in the winery begins with total destemming, followed by a maceration on the skins for several days to encourage the extraction of colour and aromas. This is followed by malolactic fermentation, which is essential to soften the palate. Maturation in vats continues until the summer to naturally stabilise the wine, then concludes with a period of rest in the cellar to allow all elements to blend before consumption.

In 1639, he was made an honorary town citizen and soon took charge of the powerful winegrowers' guild.
In 1672, his son built a beautiful house in the Rue des Cordiers, and above the door was carved the family coat of arms, which was the origin of the company logo still in use today.
During the 18th and 19th centuries, the Hugel family earned an enviable reputation for their wine-making skills and the particular way they cultivated their vineyards. Then, in 1902, Frédéric Emile Hugel settled on the premises in the centre of Riquewihr.
After 1918, many far-sighted and courageous winegrowers, including Frédéric Emile Hugel, took steps to save the Alsace vineyards. This true pioneer dedicated his entire life to promoting high-quality wines from noble grape varieties. His son Jean continued this crusade. With his perseverance and hard work, he proved that Alsace wines deserved their place among the best wines in the world.
His three sons, Georges, Jean and André, gained official recognition for Alsace 'Vendange Tardive' and 'Sélection de Grains Nobles' wines. Read more
