Description

What kind of wine it is

Alta Langa Luigi Coppo Brut, produced by Coppo, is a Piedmontese sparkling wine made using the Traditional Method, created from a balanced blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. It reveals itself with a straw yellow colour and golden highlights, enlivened by a fine and persistent perlage. On the nose, it is intense, with notes of apple, bread crust and yeast, while on the palate it is dry, fresh and delicate, supported by a savoury and almondy texture. It is ideal as an aperitif or paired with mortadella, anchovies and steamed shellfish.

Where it comes from

The grapes grow in the vineyards of Alta Langa, situated between 270 and 450 metres above sea level with an east-west exposure. The clay marl and gypsum rock soils of marine origin give the wine structure and freshness. The name pays tribute to Luigi Coppo, a key figure who modernised the cellars, overcoming the challenges of the past. This sparkling wine reflects the deep connection with the land and the determination of the company, fully enhancing the natural hilly vocation for outstanding sparkling wines.

How it is produced

The harvest takes place in August through careful manual selection of the bunches. Vinification begins with a gentle pressing and fermentation in stainless steel at a controlled temperature, completing the entire malolactic process. The prise de mousse follows the Traditional Method, with secondary fermentation in the bottle. A slow maturation of 30 months on the lees enriches its aromatic complexity. This rigorous technical process preserves the original elegant taste, outlining a fragrant and harmonious profile.

History and Curiosities

This sparkling wine is dedicated to Luigi Coppo, who succeeded the founder Piero Coppo and faced with determination the difficulties that followed the flood of 1948. Thanks to his resolve, the cellars were modernised by adopting innovative technologies. The wine celebrates his legacy and serves as a tribute to all those who never yield in the face of adversity.

The history of Coppo winery is inextricably wound with the wine history of Piedmont. Moreover, it is closely linked to the development of the city of Canelli, known as the capital of Italian sparkling wine and one of Italy’s most important viticultural centres today.

Coppo’s history is one of tradition and bold vision for the future, of sacrifice and innovation. It is a story of the unconditional love that Coppo has for their vines’ origins, for varieties that have always been cultivated in Piedmont, and for old family traditions.

The origins of the winery date back to 1892. For over 120 years, the family has remained the sole owner. Since the beginning, the Coppo family has managed estate vineyards and bottled their wine under the name of Coppo, making it one of the oldest family-run wineries in all of Italy.

In fact, in 2012, the Chamber of Commerce added the winery to the national register of historical businesses, highlighting its uninterrupted activity for over a century in the sector.
