Description
What kind of spirit is this?
LoneWolf Cactus and Lime Gin by BrewDog is a Scottish flavoured Gin with a distinct citrus-forward profile. The recipe is built on Tuscan juniper, enhanced by kaffir lime leaves, Queen of the Night cactus flower, and distilled pressed cactus juice. The nose reveals vibrant aromas of mango and passion fruit, while the palate is juicy and balanced, blending fruitiness with light bitterness and spice. The experience concludes with a delicately spicy finish, leaving fresh notes of lime, grapefruit, lemon, and a subtle hint of lavender.
Geographical origin
Produced in Ellon, Scotland, this Gin reflects BrewDog‘s exacting distillation standards and diverse botanical selection. Its identity connects its Scottish roots with exotic elements, including Tuscan juniper and fresh grapefruit and lemon peels. The resulting profile is fresh and highly aromatic, revealing subtle nuances of lychee and sun-ripened watermelon from the unique cactus botanicals. Furthermore, the distillery employs a CO2-negative approach, removing twice as much carbon from the atmosphere as is generated during production.
Production process
Crafted via small-batch distillation, this spirit utilises both a continuous column and a batch pot still. This method extracts essential oils from botanicals such as Thai lemongrass, pink peppercorns, Scots pine, mace, and almonds to complement the core cactus and lime elements. The process captures a bright citrus character and a robust juniper base, ensuring a well-structured profile. With 38% alcohol by volume, it is best served at a temperature of 8–10°C. It is excellent neat, over ice, or in a Gin & Tonic, pairing perfectly with prawns, soft cheeses, and spicy dishes.
History and Curiosities
Crafted in Scotland by the BrewDog Distilling Co., LoneWolf Cactus and Lime Gin pushes traditional boundaries to offer a wonderfully rebellious spirit. Its exotic character is derived from the Queen of the Night cactus flower, a rare botanical that blooms only after dark, making it the perfect choice for a sunset serve. Distilled in small batches using both pot and column stills, this spirit is proudly CO2-negative, removing twice as much carbon as it produces. With its vibrant, citrus-forward profile, this wild creation proves it is certainly not your average gin.
