Description

What kind of spirit is this

Contrasts Peat Smoke by Benromach is a Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky from Scotland, crafted using heavily peated malted barley at 57 ppm. Matured for 8 years in first-fill bourbon casks, it offers a distinctly smoky profile with a smooth palate of toasted oak, vanilla, honey, tobacco, ripe apricot, strawberry, orange, and anise. The spirit concludes with a long, smoky finish, mouth-coating sweetness, and a refreshing lemon sorbet edge.

Geographical origin

This Single Malt originates from Forres, in the renowned Speyside region. Produced by Benromach, the spirit reflects the geographical roots of its Scottish heritage. The natural sweetness of the regional character provides a fine balance against the intensity of the smoke, creating a complex sensory profile.

How it is produced

The process relies on precise small-batch distillation, allowing for rigorous control over the final spirit. Following fermentation, the spirit undergoes an 8-year maturation exclusively in first-fill bourbon casks. Each cask is individually filled, weighed, and hand-marked before resting in classic dunnage warehouses. This careful ageing process imparts deep flavours of toasted oak and warm vanilla, perfectly harmonising the sweet fruit character with the robust peat smoke.

History and Heritage

Crafted at the historic Benromach distillery in Forres—founded in 1898 and meticulously restored by Gordon & MacPhail—this limited release is a testament to true craftsmanship. Distilled in 2014 from heavily peated malt at 57 ppm, the whisky was matured exclusively in first-fill bourbon casks for nine years. Every cask is carefully filled, weighed, and hand-marked before being laid to rest in traditional dunnage warehouses. Presented in a handsome gift box, this small-batch distillation perfectly captures the essence of Scotland’s authentic whisky-making heritage.
