Ogier was a Dane. He was one of those eccentric men, a European ahead of his time, who went off to fight with Charlemagne’s soldiers in the Basque Country.
On his way back home he stopped off in the Massif Central. His stay turned out to be permanent, and the Ogier name spread throughout the Rhone Valley.
Antoine Ogier, a distant descendant of Ogier the Dane, starts his trading business. Among the traits he shares with his illustrious ancestor are his swagger and renown.
A time of renewal. Chateauneuf-du-Pape’s cellars and offices ring once more to the footsteps and voices of Ogier’s employees. Didier Couturier, newly arrived at the company, establishes partnerships with wine-growers, takes the wine-making in hand and devises a new workplan focused on maturation. This period gives rise to the Ogier style: purity of fruit, freshness and depth.
Ogier embraces sustainability and starts to convert all of its vineyards to organic cultivation. Since then, Ogier has acquired new parcels in Chateauneuf-du-Pape and introduced a unique initiative to local viticulture: parcel-based selection, enabling the appellation’s four great terroirs to show their full potential.
Today’s achievements include parcel-based selection, professional excellence, tastings and promotion of the Rhone Way of Life around the world.
In 2012, Ogier further improves its maturation facilities and replaces some of the old barrels used for its Ogier cuvées.
