Description

What kind of wine it is

Tenuta Viglione Primitivo Maioliche Puglia is an organic red wine that faithfully reflects the identity of Apulia. Made from Primitivo grapes, it reveals a dry, medium-bodied palate, defined by well-structured tannins, lively acidity and a long finish. On the nose, it expresses fresh aromas of cherry and plum, followed by clear hints of forest fruits. The sip favours a clean varietal interpretation, enhancing the fragrance of the original fruit through processes aimed at maintaining maximum flavour tension.

Where it comes from

The grapes grow on the Murge plateau, in the areas of Santeramo in Colle and Gioia del Colle. The vineyards are situated between 450 and 480 metres above sea level, ensuring vital freshness for the bunches. The calcareous clay and stony soils, rich in minerals, give the glass aromatic clarity and a distinct earthy character. The Tenuta Viglione winery, led by the third generation of the family, cultivates these vineyards following strict agricultural standards, supported by organic certification.

How it is produced

The process begins with fermentation in stainless steel tanks, a method that preserves the natural aromatic definition of the grapes. Maturation continues in steel, completed by selective use of oak barrels. This approach allows the characteristics of the vintage to be balanced without overshadowing the identity of the grape variety. This operational choice results in a dry and clean profile, characterised by immediate flavour intensity and remarkable persistence on the palate.

History and Curiosities

Founded in 1967 on the Murge plateau, Tenuta Viglione is a family-run estate that, now under the guidance of Giovanni Zullo, has preserved over a century of passion for viticulture across three generations. The winery combines this long-standing tradition with ongoing university research into yeasts, ensuring an organic red wine of the highest quality, certified since 2005. The meticulous work of oenologist Tommaso Pinto enhances the purest expression of the grapes, an endeavour crowned by the 94 points awarded by Luca Maroni, confirming this Apulian excellence.

"Time runs fast when we devote it to the things that we care most: this my grandparents knew, then my parents, and now it’s true also for me. It’s about one hundred years since my family began to work in these vineyards, with passion and dedication, making a simple dream become a wonderful reality, that we proudly tell every day with our wines."
