Description

What kind of wine it is

Scabrezza by Tenuta Monteloro is a white wine from Tuscany made from Pinot Grigio grapes, renowned for its distinctive coppery colour. This captivating visual nuance hints at remarkable complexity both on the nose and palate. On the nose, it is intense, releasing a fragrant bouquet where citrus notes of grapefruit and albedo stand out, harmoniously blended with hints of pear, linden blossom and aromatic herbs. On the palate, it displays a fresh, balanced and savoury character, consistently supported by a clear mineral structure that leads to a clean, crisp finish enriched by a pleasant fruity aftertaste.

Where it comes from

This wine originates from the picturesque hills of the Fiesole Apennines, on the outskirts of Florence. The vineyards are situated at around five hundred metres above sea level, surrounded by woods and white roads said to have inspired the landscapes of the Divine Comedy. The area benefits from a cool climate all year round and mineral-rich soils, ideal environmental conditions to enhance the aromatic profile and pronounced savouriness of the grapes. The wine's name derives from an ancient hydrometric gauge used in these valleys to measure river flow, reflecting a deep connection with the local nature.

How it is produced

Harvesting takes place in the early hours of the morning to preserve the freshness and integrity of the bunches. In the winery, destemming is followed by a brief maceration on the skins, a crucial step that allows the delicate coppery hue to be extracted before proceeding with gentle pressing. The must undergoes natural cold clarification and is transferred to stainless steel tanks for fermentation at a controlled temperature. Ageing continues in the same containers, where the wine rests at low temperatures, ensuring absolute aromatic precision and preserving the expressive purity of the fruit.

History and Curiosities

Located on the outskirts of Florence, Tenuta Monteloro stands on the first slopes of the Fiesole Apennines, once home to historic aristocratic families. The cool climate and mineral-rich soils create an ideal environment, perfectly enhancing aromatic white wines. Nestled among enchanting woods, this evocative landscape is said to have inspired some passages of the Divine Comedy. The label celebrates this connection by quoting a verse dedicated to Beatrice, while the name recalls an ancient hydrometric gauge, elegantly uniting the territorial identity with pure poetry.
