Description

What type of spirit it is

Chairman’s Reserve Original Rum by Saint Lucia Distillers is a Caribbean dark rum from Saint Lucia, crafted from Guyanese molasses. Triple distilled in column and pot stills and aged in ex-bourbon oak, it presents a harmonious profile where vanilla, caramel, and tropical fruit merge with toasted oak. This smooth 40% ABV spirit delivers a warming, creamy finish accented by tobacco and gentle spice, making it highly versatile as a digestif served neat or mixed with coconut water in premium cocktails.

Where it comes from

Originating in the Roseau Valley on Saint Lucia, this spirit benefits from a maritime climate and lush inland hills, providing an ideal environment for maturation. Produced by St. Lucia Distillers, the blend was developed under Laurie Barnard to seamlessly unite diverse distillates. Chairman’s Reserve Original Rum has earned immense global recognition for its technical precision. Among its accolades, it proudly holds a Gold Medal from the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, affirming its high standing in major spirits competitions.

How it is produced

Fermentation utilises multiple yeast strains to develop character and aromatic depth. The spirit undergoes a triple distillation process, combining continuous column stills with traditional pot stills to yield distinct batches. These spirits mature for approximately five years in ex-bourbon American oak casks, including barrels from Buffalo Trace, Jim Beam, and Jack Daniel’s. Following a careful blending process, the rum rests for an additional six months in oak casks, allowing the flavours to integrate into a balanced and structured profile.

History and Heritage

First crafted in 1999 by Laurie Barnard at St. Lucia Distillers in the lush Roseau Valley, Chairman’s Reserve is an innovative Caribbean blend of young and aged rums. The rum quickly transcended its local origins to earn global acclaim, including a prestigious Gold Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

"In the wonderful Caribbean island of Santa Lucia, since 1972, following the most important British production traditions and at the same time trying to experiment with new distillation techniques, the small distillery" Saint Lucia Distillers "produces some of the best rum blend in the world St Lucia Distillery is located in the rich and beautiful Valley of Roseau where an avid group of distillers and blenders works with the aim of creating the best rum possible.St Lucia Distillery has emerged from a consolidated tradition in the island where over the years '50 there were only two distilleries, in Dennery, linked to the Barnard plantation and Roseau of the Geest family and right in the location of the latter was later born St. Lucia with as members the two families of the original distilleries. Geest remained members until in 1992 when the Barnard set up quotas for the Angostura Ltd. of Trinidad in 1997. In 2005, St L The Distillers Group of Companies was sold to Clico with Laurie Barnard, the third generation of Rum maker, who remained as Managing Director to ensure continuity. The process is classic, after having subjected molasses to a long fermentation, which occurs in open tanks using only native yeasts, the distillation is carried out with both modern column poppies and with traditional and discontinuous alambicas. Aging occurs in American oak barrels, previously used for Bourbon Whiskey, Sherry or Cognac. The combined use of several olives, and the use of various types of aging barrels, makes Rum of Saint Lucia distillery rich in aromas and particularly balanced, which is why Saint Lucia Distillers is famous throughout world. St Lucia Distillers Group's offer is very wide, with over 25 rum in the premium category and rum liquor traditions. " Read more
