Description

What kind of wine it is

The Pinot Noir from Podere della Civettaja is a still red wine with Indicazione Geografica Tipica status, which precisely interprets the character of this grape variety in Tuscan soil. Visually, it displays an elegant ruby red colour, introducing a refined aromatic profile that opens with notes of wilted wisteria, blackcurrant and cherry, then evolves towards hints of black tea, tamarind and coffee beans. On the palate, the taste is supported by a delicate tannin and a lively note of red citrus, enriched by the savouriness of Sarawak pepper. The sip concludes with a persistent and warm finish, dominated by nuances of sweet spices and chocolate.

Where it comes from

This Pinot Noir originates in the province of Arezzo, in the heart of Tuscany, from a vineyard of just three hectares located in the Apennines at five hundred metres above sea level. The limited production makes it a true oenological rarity. The influence of the altitude and the characteristics of the land give the wine remarkable balance and structural precision, ensuring excellent ageing potential. It is, in fact, ideal for cellar ageing estimated between ten and fifteen years, a period that enhances its natural complexity.

How it is produced

The vinification, overseen by oenologist Vincenzo Tommasi, follows a rigorous approach aimed at preserving the integrity of the raw material. The wine is bottled without filtration, a fundamental technical choice that protects its original aromatic identity.

History and Curiosities

Originating from the Arezzo area and produced from a vineyard of just three hectares, Podere della Civettaja Pinot Nero 2023 is a true rarity, made in only 10,000 bottles. Under the careful guidance of oenologist Vincenzo Tommasi, this excellent Toscana IGT preserves the innate elegance of the fruit thanks to unfiltered bottling, which enhances its pure aromatic identity. It can mature in the cellar for 10-15 years. This collector's gem boasts prestigious accolades, including 99/100 from Robert Parker.

If I had said, a few years ago, that Casentino rhymed with wine, I think everyone would have shrugged. Today, wine really does rhyme: it is Pinot Noir.

Vincenzo Tommasi has like pulling the white rabbit out of the black hat, with a magic that verges, every year, on the incredulity of managing to keep the quality standard of the only wine he produces intact.

We could tell you all about it, we could utter an Apennine elegy in celebration of excellence, but there is only one thing left to say: buy it!

This elegant Pinot Noir enhances meats and game, perfectly accompanying the classic leg of lamb with new potatoes or pork-based recipes. Its delicate tannins also pair beautifully with cheeses. To release its persuasive spicy scents, we recommend decanting it for an hour and serving it at a temperature of 14-16 °C.
