Description

The Pio Cesare 2017 Barbaresco is subtle and fine in personality, yet there is plenty of Nebbiolo elegance and complexity. Past vintages of this wine have shown enormous consistency when it come to their inner finesse, and this hot, more challenging vintage is no different. That's quite an accomplishment on its own. Tart cherry and cassis segue to spice, campfire ash, tobacco and dried lavender flower. Perhaps the tannic power of the wine is more robust but not by too much. (Monica Larner)

The Pio Cesare was founded in 1881 by our Princess Victoria, Pio Cesare (Caesar Pius name and surname). Pio Cesare and 'was among the first in the second half' of 800, to believe in the great potential 'for Barolo, Barbaresco and other great wines of the Langhe and it' was among the first to produce them and make them known. For five generations, our wines vinified in our cellars old Alba, traveled and bounded by the old Roman walls of the City '. We recently completed a huge renovation, with large investments in technology, which allowed us to exploit more and more 'the historical and architectural importance of our winery, the only ones left in the old town of Citta' di Alba.

We own over 50 hectares of vineyards in positions of particular value, both in the Barolo region (in the vineyards of Serralunga d'Alba Cascina "Ornate" and the "Colombaro" Grinzane Cavour in the vineyards of Cascina Gusto , the vineyard in La Morra "Roncaglia" and the vineyard Barolo, Novello "Ravera"), both in the area of Barbaresco (Treiso to the vineyards of Cascina "Il Bricco" and the "San Stefanetto"), as well as to Sinio, Diano d'Alba and Trezzo Tinella. We also, in small part, of grapes grown by "incumbent" for generations that we cultivate their vineyards, which are also located in areas highly suited, according to our guidelines and our strict quality controls.

All our wines are vinified by us according to the most 'thorough traditional techniques dellla our house and after an appropriate aging in barrels and French oak barrels and stainless steel, are left to rest in the dark bottle and the coolness of our cellars.

The quantity 'produced are always kept strictly limited, to maintain quality' of our wines always more 'high level. The meticulous dedication to quality 'has enabled us, in more' than 100 years of history, to reach a position of notoriety prominent 'among the companies producing wines of Alba: our wines are better known and appreciated by customers in Italy and beyond 40 countries worldwide.

Our Barbera d'Alba 2019 has been included with number 38 in the very prestigious Top 100 Wines of 2021 List by the American magazine Wine Spectator, which awarded it 92 points.
