Description

What kind of wine it is

Paltrinieri Piria Lambrusco di Sorbara is a dry red sparkling wine from Emilia. The blend of Lambrusco di Sorbara and Lambrusco Salamino grapes produces a glass with a delicate ruby colour, enlivened by a fine and persistent perlage. On the nose, there are intense notes of red fruits, strawberry and apple peel, skilfully intertwined with delicate hints of violet and thyme. The palate is dry and lively, characterised by a creamy and elegant mousse that leads to a distinctly saline finish, perfect for accompanying local dishes such as tortellini in broth.

Where it comes from

This wine originates from the renowned Christ of Sorbara area, a fertile strip of land in the Modena region embraced by the Secchia and Panaro rivers. Paltrinieri's vines sink their roots into loose, sandy soils, rich in organic matter. This specific soil composition gives the wine a pronounced freshness and its unmistakable savoury character. The deep connection with the area's winemaking tradition has been carefully maintained by the family since 1926.

How it is produced

The production process involves careful manual harvesting to select only the best bunches. In the winery, the grapes are processed with no maceration on the skins, a crucial step in defining the wine's pale and bright colour. The subsequent secondary fermentation in autoclave, carried out according to the Martinotti Method, preserves the spontaneity of the primary fruity and floral aromas. This meticulous vinification gives the wine a vibrant profile, ensuring a harmonious and perfectly balanced taste.

History and Curiosities

Since 1926, the Paltrinieri winery has passionately passed down the legacy of grandfather Achille. The Lambrusco di Sorbara DOC “Piria” is born in the prestigious Cristo di Sorbara area, a fertile strip of land in the Modena region enclosed between the Secchia and Panaro rivers. The grapes, carefully hand-selected, ripen on silty and sandy soils that give the wine its unmistakable and vibrant saline character. Thanks to the expert vision of oenologist Attilio Pagli, this Emilian excellence has achieved 91 Vinous points, thus celebrating a family tradition spanning almost a century.

""When I finished my studies, my father asked me what I wanted to do in life. My answer was that I wanted to keep alive the tradition of work that grandfather Achille had begun in 1926 and that he and my mother had been running for 40 years. In 1998, with my wife Barbara, I started directing the winery, gambling on the production of the first mono-varietal Sorbara. Since then, I have managed and produced 17 hectares of vineyards in the historic area of the Cristo di Sorbara, the thinnest extension of land between the Secchia and the Panaro, the two rivers that embrace the province of Modena."
