Description

A strongly persistent wine, it benefits both from its coastal location and mild climate, in a vineyard protected by the Picentini Mountain peaks. With its distinguished style, this is a wine characterized by its sophistication, the complexity of the soil in which it is grown and the scent and colour of the land.
Its colour is a deep, intense and concentrated ruby red. It has scents of woodland with hints of violet, blackberry and cherry. Spiced tones drawing on liquorice, myrtle, cinnamon or chocolate, mint and tobacco, depending on the year and the development in ripening; well balanced through a magnificent blend of tannins, acidity and wood, it has the promise of a young wine that ages well, transforming from such a sensual concentration into elegance.

The Azienda Agricola Montevetrano was born years ago through the experimental enthusiasm of a group of friends who shared a passion for wine, stemming from the legendary Bordeaux wines of the era.
A former property of the Bourbons, it eventually grew into a wine estate. Purchased in the 40’s by the “Imparato grandparents”, it produced fruit, nuts, wine and oil for family use.
In 1985, the near two hectares of land were used to plant Aglianico Taurasi, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot onto Barbera, Per’è palummo (Piedirosso) and Troia grape.
In 1991, the very first bottles of Montevetrano were produced, just for friends, from 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Aglianico.
It has been like an endless celebration ever since, and a surprising one with Montevetrano having far exceeded its expectations.
Old friends Silvia Imparato and Riccardo Cotarella still remain enthusiastic at the helm of the company, producing a wine of superb quality and age.
Montevetrano is no longer the challenge it used to be. It’s now a small but steady company, selling its wine in limited quantities throughout the world.
Due to its small size and a demand which exceeds production, our company strategy is not to attend fairs with any regularity, unless as spectators, as is usually the case.
Producing such a small number of bottles (around 30,000 per year), which are sold worldwide, we hold our customer relationships very dear, feeling we are steering the product in the right direction.
Bottle control is also essential for our books, and is something to which we have paid great attention since the very first days of production.
Montevetrano follows a path dictated by values of pure simplicity through work and knowledge, and of a more consolidated experience from the land, the different markets and the cultures of a changing world.
We are now widely recognised for our modern, worldly production of a deep and elegant wine, which speaks from the earth itself.
All thanks to the commitment of every one of us. Few in number yet carefully attentive, we each are specialised in individual fields yet work together as a unit, to create a balance which gives Montevetrano its strength.
