Description

What kind of wine it is

Montevertine from the Montevertine winery is a still red wine Toscana IGT with a distinctly territorial character. The result of a carefully crafted blend of Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Colorino, vinified in cement and aged in barrel, it reveals an intense and complex aromatic profile. On the nose, notes of blackberry, raspberry and dried violets stand out, enriched by hints of tobacco, rhubarb, cloves, anise and fresh balsamic nuances. On the palate, it expresses polished and harmonious tannins, with a long, spicy finish ideal for pairing with braised meats, cured meats and structured dishes.

Where it comes from

This red is born in the heart of Radda in Chianti, in the province of Siena. The Montevertine winery is a cornerstone of Tuscan oenology; initially produced as Chianti Classico, the label embarked on an independent path in the 1980s, breaking away from the Consortium to focus on pure company expression. The vocation of the land and the rigorous selection of grapes guarantee a precise identity, defined by aromatic clarity and vibrant freshness, which faithfully reflect the terroir of origin.

How it is produced

Vinification involves alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in cement vats for about twenty-one days. The maturation phase continues with twenty-four months of ageing in Slavonian and Allier oak barrels, woods that encourage slow and steady evolution. The process ends with a further period of rest before release to the market. The absence of filtration preserves the integrity of the wine, which presents a deep ruby red colour and may show natural sediments, a sign of balanced evolution and a profound tannic structure.

History and Curiosities

Born in Radda in Chianti, Montevertine embodies over fifty years of winemaking excellence. Initially produced as Chianti Classico, since 1982 the family has embarked on a bold independent path outside the Consortium, making this red the symbol of the estate. The historic label, awarded 95 points by Vinous and 4 AIS Vines, boasts a handcrafted approach based on the complete absence of filtration. The natural sediments bear witness to a genuine quality faithful to tradition.

Montevertine is located in the heart of the Chianti hills, in the town of Radda in Chianti at 425 meters high. The site was certainly inhabited since the 11th century. In fact, there are still traces of the original building, certainly defensive, then transformed into a lodging.
Montevertine was purchased in 1967, Sergio Manetti, then the steel industry, as a holiday home. He restored the house to make it habitable and just planted two acres of vineyard and set up a small store with the idea of producing a 'wine for his friends and customers.
The first year of production, 1971, was more discreet and Sergio Manetti decided some bottles at Vinitaly via the Chamber of Commerce of Siena. It was an immediate success and so enthusiastic about Mr. Manetti that after a few years he abandoned his core business to focus solely on wine. New vineyards were planted, new wineries, and this without any interruption, with a development company that still lasts.
The farm, after the death of Sergio Manetti in November of 2000, is now run by his son Martino Manetti collaboration with Bruno Bini, born in Montevertine and deep knowledge of the area and land. Giulio Gambelli, expert wine taster, offers his advice and assistance in the preparation of wines.
