Description
What type of wine it is
Torrette by Les Crêtes is a still red wine from the Valle d’Aosta Torrette denomination, vinified and aged in stainless steel. This blend combines Petit Rouge and Pinot Noir grapes. On the nose, it expresses intense aromas of ripe red fruits, cherry and raspberry, embellished with nuances of violet, dried rose and undergrowth. On the palate, it reveals an enveloping and elegant structure, supported by soft tannins and a marked freshness, with a decisive mineral trail that culminates in a persistent finish.
Where it comes from
The Les Crêtes vineyards are located in the historic area of Torrette, between the municipalities of Sarre, Aymavilles, Saint-Pierre, Gressan and Saint-Christophe. The vines grow on short terraces between 500 and 750 metres in altitude, forged by an Alpine climate. Cool summers and harsh winters generate significant temperature variations, which are fundamental for the aromatic development of the bunches. The morainic and sandy soil, situated on steep slopes, is the soul of this mountain viticulture, giving the glass a vibrant freshness and a clearly defined mineral signature.
How it is produced
Vinification begins in mid-October with a careful manual harvest. The grapes are destemmed and fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Daily pump-overs ensure ideal extraction of colour and aromas. The wine then rests for eight months of ageing in stainless steel, a technique chosen to preserve the varietal clarity of the fruit, before completing its cycle with a brief final rest.
History and Curiosities
Les Crêtes Torrette embodies the essence of Aosta Valley’s heroic viticulture, upheld for six generations by the Charrère family. With roots sinking into steep Alpine terraces at an altitude of over 500 metres, this red wine is born from morainic and sandy soils that highlight the character of the Petit Rouge grape variety. Produced since 1991 in just ten thousand bottles a year, this prestigious cuvée combines proud mountain tradition with undisputed elegance, celebrated with top scores from international experts such as Robert Parker and James Suckling.
