Description

Gatinois's Champagne Grand Cru Brut Tradition is featured on the wine lists of the most prestigious French restaurants. It is a true excellence among Champagnes. It is made from Pinot Noir grapes, which predominates to provide structure, accompanied by a percentage of Chardonnay for elegance. The grapes mature on the lees for three years to achieve greater complexity and body. With every glass, with every sip, you feel like you are drinking the fascinating terroir of Aÿ, whose vineyards produce the grapes that make this champagne so fresh and pleasant. Suitable for refined aperitifs and fish dinners, it offers moments of timeless French elegance. The Gatinois family has been cultivating vines since the 17th century, spanning twelve generations, but for years they sold their grapes to the more famous Bollinger winery. Then, he began making his own wine, and one of the results is this surprising champagne. The production area is the Aÿ terroir, located in the heart of Champagne country. Situated at the foot of the Montagne de Reims, the climate is positively influenced by this presence, as the mountain acts as a barrier against adverse weather conditions, allowing for excellent grapes. A distinctive feature of the Champagne Grand Cru Brut Tradition is that it reconciles consumers who love Pinot Noir, its power and complexity, with those who prefer Chardonnay for its refinement. In this wine, the duality blends perfectly, because both grapes express the best not so much of themselves, but of the land in which they are grown, a true microcosm of perfection, thanks to its unique exposure to the sun.

Since Nicolas LE CACHEUR and Françoise REMY married in 1696, there have been 12 family generations on the famous hillsides of Aÿ, over the past three centuries.
In the early 20th century, great-grandfather Emile MICHEL-LE CACHEUR was a fervent defender of the winemakers’ interests in Champagne. In 1911, he became one of the founding members of today’s SGV champagne syndicate. His daughter, Marie, married Charles GATINOIS in 1921 and continued her father’s work: the GATINOIS name has appeared on the bottles ever since.

Emile and Micheline GATINOIS took over the domaine after the Second World War. Between 1980 and 2010, their daughter Marie and her husband Pierre CHEVAL were at the helm of the prestigious family company. Dedication is clearly a family trait which has been passed on, as Pierre is the founder of the Villa Bissinger (The National Institute of Wines from Champagne) and currently chairs the Champagne Landscapes Association that lead to their listing to the Unesco World Heritage list in 2015. His son, Louis, now perpetuates the family’s 300 years of knowhow.
