Description

What kind of wine it is

Fattoria dei Barbi Brunello Montalcino Colombini is a red wine that embodies the elegance and complexity of Sangiovese. It displays an intense ruby colour, revealing aromas of ripe red fruit, with clear notes of morello cherry and plum accompanied by delicate spicy hints. On the palate, it is enveloping, supported by dense and refined tannins that provide a silky structure. The vibrant acidity ensures a persistent and harmonious finish. If decanted about an hour before serving, it pairs excellently with robust dishes such as stewed meats, game, and mature or full-bodied cheeses.

Where it comes from

The grapes come from the Montalcino area, where the vineyards benefit from a south and south-west exposure at around three hundred and fifty metres above sea level. This ideal microclimate favours the perfect ripening of the bunches, enriching the wine's aromatic profile. The Colombini family, historically linked to this land since the fourteenth century, leads the Fattoria dei Barbi winery, which has been a benchmark for Tuscan winemaking since the late nineteenth century. This deep connection translates into a wine with a strong territorial identity, an authentic expression of Brunello di Montalcino.

How it is produced

After harvesting and subsequent destemming, the grapes undergo a pre-fermentation cryomaceration in the absence of oxygen to best extract colour and aromatic precursors. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature for over two weeks, followed by malolactic fermentation. The maturation phase continues for at least twenty-four months in Slavonian oak barrels of various capacities, which give the wine balance and elegance. The process concludes with glass ageing for four months before release to the market.

History and Curiosities

Guardian of an agricultural heritage dating back to 1352, the Colombini family has led the historic Fattoria dei Barbi in the creation of excellent wines since 1892. Among the pioneers of global wine exportation, this Sienese estate encapsulates the true essence of Tuscany in its Brunello Colombini 2020. The result of 66 hectares of prized vineyards, this red wine nobly expresses the authentic soul of Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, offering an elegant tasting experience that celebrates centuries of winemaking mastery and a profound love for the land.

The Colombini family has owned land in Montalcino since 1352, and the Fattoria dei Barbi since the end of the 18th century. The property extends over 350 hectares of fields and vineyards in southern Tuscany, in Montalcino, Scansano and in Chianti. We have been producing Brunello since 1892 and were the first to export it to Europe, America and Asia. Since the 19th century, our wines have won prizes all over the world, and our blue label has always been the best known Brunello.

The Fattoria dei Barbi today is owned by Stefano Cinelli Colombini, who continues a story that sees the Colombinis linked to these lands for more than six centuries; a very long time in which the family has always defended the traditions and values of the Montalcinese culture, whose last and most precious fruit is Brunello.
