Description

Type of wine

The Clos La Gaffeliere Saint Emilion Grand Cru from Château La Gaffelière is a red wine with a protected designation of origin from Bordeaux, crafted from a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes. It has a ruby colour and aromas of cherry, plum and tobacco. On the palate, it is deep, with very fine tannins and a pleasant fruity freshness. It is excellent when served decanted alongside red meats, poultry and stewed game.

Origin

It originates in the territory of Saint-Émilion, produced by the Château La Gaffelière winery, whose viticultural roots date back to 1705. The vineyards sit on a limestone plateau and clay-limestone slopes, giving the wine balance and a precise flavour profile. Agricultural management respects the ecosystem through permanent grass cover and mechanical weeding, promoting high biodiversity.

Production

In the vineyard, manual intervention is used to ensure the well-being of the plants. In the cellar, the grapes are transferred by gravity into stainless steel vats, with fermentation at a controlled temperature to preserve primary aromas. This is followed by 13 months of ageing in barrels to integrate the structure with notes of oak and spice. The result is a complex red, capable of excellent bottle evolution for ten years.

History and Interesting Facts

The origins of the Clos La Gaffelière estate date back to the Gallo-Roman era, bearing witness to an uninterrupted dedication to viticulture since 1705. The 2022 vintage combines this glorious heritage with a sustainable approach: the vineyards are enhanced through environmentally friendly agricultural practices, which exclude the use of herbicides in favour of mechanical weeding and natural grass cover. Every manual task, entrusted to local labour, preserves the authenticity and rich biodiversity of a truly unique ecosystem.
