Description
Type of wine
The Rive Gauche Extra Brut Champagne from Bérèche is a Blanc de Noirs made from Meunier grapes. Crafted using the Traditional Method, it reveals a structured and incisive profile, animated by a fine perlage that enhances tension and freshness. On the nose, it offers aromas of citrus zest and pear, combined with hints of pastry and toasted almond. The palate is distinguished by a dry finish and a pronounced saline component.
Origin
This wine originates from the left bank of the Marne Valley, in the territory of Mareuil-le-Port. The grapes come from old vines cultivated with meticulous care to ensure optimal fruit concentration. The deep soils, composed of clay, limestone, and sand, define the character of the territory, giving the palate freshness and a fine savoury finish. The winery manages these plots to achieve a limited production that enhances the authentic expression of the terroir.
Production method
Vinification involves a slow fermentation in barrels, ideal for providing structure and precision. Following the rigorous rules of the Traditional Method, long ageing on the lees enriches the aromatic complexity. The low dosage outlines an essential and vertical Extra Brut profile. The remarkable savoury persistence of the finish makes it perfect for elegantly accompanying shellfish, fried fish, sushi, charcuterie, and cheeses.
History and curiosities
Active since 1847, the Bérêche & Fils maison signs this fine Champagne from the Marne Valley, obtained from 52-year-old vines. This exceptional Blanc de Noirs from Meunier grapes is born from a slow fermentation in barriques and careful ageing for 36 months on the lees. The 2022 vintage was awarded 93 points by Vinous. Produced in a limited run of 2,851 bottles, this artisanal interpretation of the left bank represents a rare expression of the maison.

Every action has been adequately thought out. Of course our land is plowed and we also use weed control to limit disease. This vegetation cover avoids herbicides, insecticides and anti-rots. Everything begins with the soil. The fertilization is organic. We feed wildlife which in turn feeds flora and thus the soil is working. As a result the House Bérêche has one of the lowest treatment frequency index in the Champagne region. It is also among the first to be certified High Environmental Quality (level 3). Read more
