Description
What kind of wine it is
Elio Altare's Langhe Nebbiolo faithfully expresses the character of Nebbiolo grown in Piedmont. In the glass, it appears a bright ruby red, revealing an aromatic profile in which delicate floral notes and rose petals stand out. The palate is smooth, supported by good acidity and tannins that are present but never aggressive, perfectly balanced by an intense red fruit flavour. This balance delivers a clear and profound drinking experience.
Where it comes from
This red originates in the Langhe, within the area of La Morra. The grapes come from vines aged between twenty and fifty years, rooted in soils of varied composition. The predominance of calcareous and sandy soils clearly defines the wine's identity, giving it a refined aromatic expression and a fresh flavour profile that keeps the structure always elegant and measured.
How it is produced
Vinification begins with a maceration on the skins in rotofermenters at a controlled temperature for three or four days, a technique used to calibrate the extraction of colour and tannic texture. This is followed by five months of ageing in used French barrels, a maturation that softens the wine while preserving its varietal notes. After decanting for about an hour, this wine pairs impeccably with meat dishes and mature cheeses.
History and Curiosities
The Langhe Nebbiolo DOC by Elio Altare, produced in La Morra from vineyards aged between 20 and 50 years, expresses the authentic essence of Piedmont. The roots delve into calcareous-sandy soils, which give the glass a brilliant ruby red colour and a delicate floral bouquet with notes of rose petals. The ageing for 5 months in used French barriques defines a harmonious profile, characterised by fine tannins, lively acidity and intense hints of red fruits. An elegant red wine, ideal to pair with meat dishes and mature cheeses.

Elio, as energetic and bubbly as 40 years ago, supervises all the activities, but lately has been focusing as well on some challenging new projects, including winemaking in Cinqueterre, Liguria; restoring an old abandoned village in Castelmagno (in the mountains between Piemonte and France); cheesemaking in Castelmagno; growing medicinal herbs; making sparkling wine in the higher Langa hills with an old obscure indigenous variety called "Liseiret;" growing organic vegetables and fruits…our family will never run out of ideas and work!
