Description

What kind of wine it is

Aldo Conterno's Favot expresses the character of Nebbiolo, in the Michet and Lampia selections. This red wine from the Langhe stands out for its brilliant hue and a notably smooth flavour profile, the result of extracting light tannins. Its pleasant drinkability makes it ideal to pair with rich game roasts, flavourful first courses and mature cheeses, offering a balanced and enveloping experience, especially if served after proper decanting.

Where it comes from

The grapes come from various vineyards located in the Bussia area, in the municipality of Monforte d’Alba, a region of the Langhe historically suited to the cultivation of this grape variety. The vines used have a maximum age of fifteen years, as they are regularly renewed through periodic replanting. Careful selection of the plots allows the balanced profile of the wine to be maintained, enhancing in every glass the clear imprint of the Piedmontese territory.

How it is produced

Around mid-October, manual harvesting and selection of the bunches directly in the field takes place. The vinification involves a short maceration on the skins for about six to eight days at controlled temperatures, a technique aimed at extracting an intense colour while keeping the tannic structure in check. Once this phase is complete, the wine rests in steel tanks with regular racking. Finally, maturation is completed with a period in wooden barrels, which defines the final harmony before bottling.

History and Curiosities

The Langhe Nebbiolo DOC “Il Favot” 2022 by Aldo Conterno originates from the prestigious Bussia vineyards in Monforte d’Alba. It is the result of vines with a maximum age of fifteen years and hand-picked Michet and Lampia grapes. The distinctive short maceration of 6-8 days encourages the extraction of a brilliant colour and limits the intensity of the tannins, giving the palate remarkable smoothness. Carefully matured in steel and subsequently in wood, this refined Piedmontese red boasts excellence confirmed by 94 points from James Suckling and 92 points from Decanter.

Aldo Conterno founded his winery in the sixties, after the division of the legacy of his father James, one of the central figures of Italian post-war. Today the company, a sort of monumental fortress in the center of Bussia Monteforte, is undoubtedly one of the biggest names not only of the Langhe, but around the world of Italian wine. Here are some of the greatest Barolo born of history, beginning with numerous memorable versions of Granbussia, a reserve produced only in great vintages. The current style is affected to a greater extent than before, the contribution of the oak, however, preserving adequate structural strength and a careful extraction of tannin. Read more

The remarkable smoothness of this Nebbiolo enhances first courses with rich sauces and hearty roasts, ranging from beef to game.
