Domaine Matassa

Domaine Matassa is a small naturally farmed estate in the Pyrénée -Orientales , with 12 hectares of vineyard between 30 and 113 years old, around the village of Calce. We have chosen to focus on the indigenous varieties of Northern Catalunya including Grenache Gris, Maccabeu, Muscat d'Alexandrie, Lladonner Pelut (the Catalan Grenache), Carignan and Mourvedre. We have been farming naturally , using biodynamic preparations since our beginning in 2003.

In the cellar we follow the logic of our vineyard work, aiming to have a natural wine full of mineral energy. We have mostly done away with the use of sulphur, some wines will get a miniscule (5 - 10mg/l) after malolactic fermentation (never before bottling which we believe is a worst of both worlds scenario) and thus our wines are never bottled with any free sulphur.
