Description

El Aziz from the Arabic 'The Magnificent' is the result of a late harvest of Grillo. It is harvested strictly by hand, in the first ten days of October, leaving the fruit to dry on the vine. This wine was born by chance during the 2003 harvest in Sicily, thanks to a very hot summer that allowed the grapes to ripen early.

From this winery
To better illustrate our company's history, it is necessary to start with Bruno Fina's experience as a young oenologist, who, in the mid-1980s, took on the role of technical manager of the experimental winery of the Sicilian Institute of Vine and Wine, a parastatal body concerned with viticulture in Sicily.

The post was given to him by Giacomo Tachis (the creator of Tingnaello, Sassicaiai and other great Italian wines), at the time a consultant to the aforementioned body, who, led by a handful of young Sicilian oenologists and agronomists, began experimenting with the planting of new grape varieties hitherto unknown in Sicily.

It was at the beginning of the 2000s that Bruno finally succeeded in realising his dream, a new modern and rational wine cellar that would allow the production of wines in accordance with the philosophy that he made his own after the aforementioned experiences:

'Sicily is a micro continent, with infinite morphological and climatic variables, therefore, albeit in some cases for limited production, it is possible to plant most of the known vine varieties'.

The most surprising production came in the mid-2000s, when Bruno decided to plant the aromatic Traminer at a plot of land of around 3 hectares at an altitude of more than 500 metres on Mount Erice, in the province of Trapani, thus in a pedo-climatic context familiar to this grape variety.

Here he planted the aromatic Traminer vines and the first vintage was 2009.

From those grapes, skilfully blended with a small percentage of Sauvignon Blanc, our 'Kikè' was born, a simple experiment in oenology that turned out to be a great commercial success, a wine that we called 'A Sicilian you don't expect ...'.
