Features wine It is generally spicy, berry-flavored and soft on the palate with a relatively high alcohol content, but it needs careful control of yields for best results. It tends to lack acid, tannin and color, and is usually blended with other varieties such as Syrah, Carignan, Tempranillo and Cinsaut.
Growing areas The Black Grenache is the main varietal of the southern part of France where it reaches the highest expressions in the denominations Châteauneuf-du-Pape and in the main vineyards of the Côte du Rhône-Villages where it competes in the best cuvées in the order of 65%.
History It is one of the most popular varieties of vines in the world. Originally from the northern province of Aragon, Spain, it spread to Rioja and Navarra.
