Château Climens is located in the southern part of Bordeaux, in the Barsac district. The name Climens derives from the toponym of the place, and it appeared for the first time on a contract of 1547. The Roborel family was the architect of the expansion and success of the estate, starting the vinification of red and white wines since XVII century.

In 1855 Henri Gounouilhou bought the property and from that year the territory of Climens has been classified as Premier Cru. Château Climens remained the property of the Gounouilhou family until 1971 when Lucien Lurton of Château Brane-Cantenac purchased the estate.

The cultivated vine is 100% Sémillon, on a vineyard area of ??29 hectares, for an average production of 3,000 bottles a year. Château Climens is certainly the most vertical, elegant and mineral of the Sauternes, the undisputed ruler of Barsac, second only to the legendary Château d'Yquem.

The years 1929, 1947 and 1949 were judged by Alexis Lichine, one of the world's greatest wine experts, far better than those of Château d'Yquem.
