||The beginning of the season was characterized by a very mild winter with below normal rainfall, which led to an early bud break of about 10 days on average. Spring is mild with some rain at the right time, has enabled a great flowering vegetative growth leading to a more in advance. The development of the berries has been accompanied by a rainy June in Tuscany. The summer begins with a July finally warm and dry, while August's cooler with the classical time around mid-month thus creating a slow maturation that shows the date of collection in the standard. A perfect September, largely sunny and temperatures never excessive and almost no rain, allowed a good slow and progressive maturation of the grape by concentrating the aromas and polyphenols with no over-ripe.
||Between 3 and 15 September the grapes were hand picked in boxes of 15 kilos in four steps according to the different parts of the vineyard. The grapes are carefully evaluated in the field were carefully selected on a double sorting table, before and after stripping.
||Malolactic fermentation occurred in oak barrels (100% new).
||After crushing, the wine has continued partly in stainless steel vats and partly in oak barrels truncated. To guide you in choosing the source from the vineyard: every part of Masseto was vinified separately. After fermentation at temperatures around 25-28 ° C, followed by a maceration of 10-15 days at 28 ° C, for a total time of 20-25 days in the tank.
||The aging lasted a total of 24 months in the temperature controlled cellars of Tenuta Ornellaia. After the first 12 months of aging, the assembly was made, and the wine was then returned to the barriques for a further 12 months. After bottling the wine was then subjected to 12 months in bottle before release.
