History The Malvasia Black of Brindisi, like the other black berries, belongs to that vineyard family whose name "Malvasia" comes from a contracted variation of Montagasia, a Byzantine stronghold abbarbished on the rocks of a promontory south of the Peloponnese where Sweet wines were produced and exported all over Europe by the Venetians under the name Monemvasia.
