Already at the beginning of the 19th century, the Marquises Falletti di Barolo produced the wine of the same name with great care on their large estates. In 1864, with the Marquise Giulia Colbert di Maulèvrier, the Falletti di Barolo branch died out and the Opera Pia Barolo remained to perpetuate their memory. In those years, Pietro Emilio Abbona was born, who, around 1895, started his wine business in his father's winery and succeeded, in 1929, in acquiring the estate Opera Pia Barolo, today Marchesi di Barolo Srl. In the company's cellars, run by his descendants, the ancient barrels are still preserved and, in the Barolo estates, the prestigious historical vineyards (the Crus), which pre-dated the birth of Barolo wine, stand out.
