Álava (Araba in Basque) is a province in the autonomous community of the Basque Country in northern Spain.
It borders the provinces of Biscay and Gipuzkoa to the north, Navarre to the east, La Rioja to the south, and Castile and Leon (province of Burgos) to the west. The surface area is 3037 km², the population in 2008 was 309 635. The capital is Vitoria-Gasteiz, while other important centres are Laudio and Amurrio.
