Giacomo Conterno Barolo Monfortino Riserva 2013
A Barolo reserve, indeed an "Extra Barolo" or "Stravecchio", as it appears on the labels in the belly and neck of the bottles from the '20 and '30 (up to 1941 included) and then replaced by "Barolo Reserve" (on belly) and "Reserve" (on neck). The Monfortino was born then as wine produced only in great vintages, from the choice of the best grapes bought in the vineyards of Serralunga and Monforte (the latter city is still on debate), and vinified in a"dedicated" manner. First became popular abroad than in Italy, which sold especially to doctors and university professors from Turin and Milan: in some of the most historic wineries, by the end of the '50, appears the format of 12.5 l of Monfortino - the legendary quarter-Brenta - reserved for the finest wines.
