Chateau Lafont Menaut
Coming from the same family which owns Château Carbonnieux one of Bordeaux's most acclaimed dry white wines, it is hardly surprising that Philibert Perrin has shown a true talent for making white wine. Close to another celebrated property, Smith Haut-Lafitte, Lafont Menaut is at once elegant and rich, with intense minerally flavours and classic Bordeaux Sauvignon Blanc aromas of citrus and exotic fruit.
Brilliant, pale yellow colour.
Expressive nose with tropical, citrus notes
The overall impression is pleasantly fresh. Aromatic at the attack with beautifully controlled balance between the fullness of the palate and the freshness of the Sauvignon. Great roundness at the mid-palate right through to the lingering finish. The aromatic finish continues the impression of freshness.

History Born into a family of winegrowers, Philibert Perrin has devoted the last 6 years to replanting and exploiting the potential of the extraordinary gravel mounds that make up the vineyard at Lafont Menu at. Well situated and well exposed to the sun, the estate covers some 10 hectares of vines and produces red and white PessacLéognan wines.
Location Situated in the village of Martillac, some 15 km from Bordeaux, Château Lafont Menaut lies at the heart of the Pessac-Léognan appellation. The property takes its name from the actual lieu-dit where the vineyard is located - La Fontaine de Menaut - and neighbours Château Rochemorin, of which it was part in the 18th century, when Rochmorin belonged to the celebrated writer, historian and winegrower, Charles de Secondat, Baron de Montesquieu.
Production technique The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully sorted before pressing. 70% of the harvest is fermented and aged on the lees in wooden vats, and 30% in stainless steel vats.
Aging The wine is barrel-aged for 9 months with regular stirring (25% new oak).
Alcohol 13.00% by volume
Production year 70,000 bottles

From this winery:
In 1990, Philibert Perrin bought nearby plots of land that used to be part of Montesquieu’s estate (Montesquieu was a famous writer-philosopher in the 18th Century). He undertook a clearing program that uncovered an abandoned washhouse called Menaut ...
