History	The Kingdom of Navarre originally extended on both sides of the Pyrenees: it was later divided between France and Spain in the 16th century. The part of Navarre on the French side is called Bassa Navarra (in Basque Nafarroa Beherea or Benafarroa), included in today's French department of the Atlantic Pyrenees. The Kingdom of Navarre, originally called "Pamplona", arose around 824, when Iñigo Arista led a revolt against the Franks. The last king of Navarre, Henry III (who reigned from 1572 to 1610), succeeded to the throne of France as Henry IV in 1589. Navarre remained a separate kingdom under the French crown until 1620, but the Kings of France also continued to hold the title of King of Navarre until 1830.
