Fio Wines

This project, founded in 2016, is the son of three passionate winemakers who grow in the Mosel. The common thread - Fio in Portuguese means thread - is "deceleration" and "relief from stress" in our fast-paced world, to which the wine industry does not stop.

Philipp Kettern met the legendary Dirk van der Niepoort of Porto in a tasting in the Caribbean. The latter loves the German Riesling, in particular the Moselle Riesling watermark with their fruity style and it took some years before the two found a common denominator for their project. Meanwhile, the son of Dirk, the son of Daniel, entered the winery and now lives in the Moselle.

The grapes have been harvested by hand and come from the steep slopes of the legendary wine village of Piesport on the central Moselle. They ferment slowly and "spontaneously" in large 1000-liter barrels and mature for some time. This gentle and silent way of removing, for example, requires low sulfur doses and other interferences in the development process. They are certainly not alone, and other great wine producers follow this path and yet here some great character plants have emerged.
