Areas of cultivation It is primarily grown in Galicia, and in particular Rias Baixas and Ribeiro. In Portugal, Caino Tinto is known as Borraçal and is used as a blending agent in the zingy red wines of Vinho Verde.
Characteristics of the wine obtained from this grape variety Cainho produces highly perfumed wines with noticeable tartness and high acidity.
Notes Caino Tinto is tricky in the vineyard because it is susceptible to many different ailments including powdery mildew, sunburn and grey rot. Its yield can also be highly irregular, a quirk which seems to be better managed in Spain than in Portugal.
