Wachau white wines

The Wachau is a valley of Austria; it is formed by the Danube river. It is one of the main tourist destinations of the region of Lower Austria, located between the cities of Melk and Krems. The valley is about 30 kilometers long and has been inhabited since prehistoric times. One of its famous tourist sites is the city of Dürnstein, where the English king Richard the Lionheart was taken prisoner by Duke Leopold V of Austria. The Wachau is known for the production of apricots and grapes, used for the production of wines and spirits characteristic. Wachau - including the abbeys of Melk and Göttweig and the historic centre of Krems - was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2000 due to its unique architectural and cultural landscape.
