Intense and velvety. Sensations of fragrant fresh fruit are accompanied by sweet but steady tannins that enhance the pleasant spicy flavours. The entire tasting sensation is enriched by a lingering, incredibly fresh finish with a pleasant minerality and an aftertaste with intriguing notes of rosemary.

History Riserva Ducale is a tribute to the Duke of Aosta, who in the late 19th century fell in love with the Chianti that Ruffino aged in large oak barrels, then called 'stravecchio' ('very old') and in 1890 appointed Ruffino as the official supplier to the Italian Royal Family. In the Duke's honour, the winery Ruffino renamed its most important wine as 'Riserva Ducale'.
Origin Pontassieve (Florence).
Climate Altitude: variable from 290 to 450 m. a.s.l.
Soil composition The soil is typical of the Chianti Classico area, clayey with an abundant presence of 'Galestro' rock.
Cultivation system Guyot and spurred cordon.
Harvest Chianti Classico Riserva 'Riserva Ducale' comes from a careful selection of the best grapes during the harvest. Harvesting begins in September and can last until the beginning of October.
Vinification Alcoholic fermentation, aided by pumping over and punching down, is carried out in thermo-controlled stainless steel tanks at an average temperature of 27°C for about 10 days. Maceration on the skins continues for a further 10 days.
Ageing After completing malolactic fermentation, it is aged for 24 months in 40-80 hl in oak barrels and part in stainless steel and concrete vats. Riserva Ducale spends a further three months in the bottle.
