Barbaresco, the emblem of Piedmontese oenology, rivals the famous Barolo. It is produced not only in the municipality of the same name, but also in Neive and Treiso. The main grape variety, Nebbiolo, is a native black grape with ancient roots, from which wines of great elegance and ageing are born. The name Nebbiolo is a visual reminder, as the berries are misted with bloom, while 'Barbaresco' evokes the slow ripening of the grapes until autumn, when mists envelop the landscape.

A Journey through Time: Roots and Tradition

The origins of this variety date back to 1200, in the restricted territory where Barbaresco is produced, mentioned in land leases as 'vitibus neblorii'. Citations in treatises from the 1600s and 1800s describe the cultivation areas and noble preferences. In 1894, the expert agronomist Dominizio Cavazza founded the now globally renowned Cantina Sociale del Vino Barbaresco.

Rebirth After the War: A Bright Cooperative

After a difficult period due to World War II, production was reborn in the 1950s thanks to brilliant producers, with the support of parish priest Don Fiorino who founded the cooperative. The success of Nebbiolo grapes in the northern Langhe is attributable to the dry, marly soils and the gentle hills exposed to the sun. The altitude varies between 220 and 310 metres above sea level.
