History Sagrantino is a native Umbrian vine among the oldest, with characteristics of great polyphenolic complexity: a wild horse that must be known and tamed with a correct viticultural practice, so that it can speak, like other Lungarotti wines, a harmonious and balanced language. Legend has it that Frederick II of Swabia on the road to Castel del Monte stopped to hunt in the area of Montefalco with his hawk, when the animal belonging to the rare and valuable Saccr breed fell ill and was treated with a medicine based on wine local that has since been called Sagrantino, from the name of the falcon of the emperor. The DOC in Montefalco was recognized in 1979 thanks to the work of Giorgio Lungarotti.
