La Fortezza

Cantina La Fortezza is an actual example of strength in soil quality, exposure, altitude and vineyard care. The vines that characterise the winery's wine production are the Aglianico del Taburno, in such quantities that the company itself can carry out a careful selection in the vineyard. That ensures the production of wines of the highest quality, such as, for example, the Aglianico Riserva, which received a gold medal during the 2019 International Wine Competition. The grapes for this wine come from a vineyard about seventy years old.

Another grape variety is Falanghina del Taburno, whose vineyard exposure guarantees an optimal result in terms of sugar content, aroma and acidity of the wine without resorting to cutting during processing. As the Greco and Fiano vines also come from external providers, the winery imposes strict and meticulous growing regulations on them.

Entirely clad in stone and well integrated into the surrounding landscape, the winery consists of two bodies. In the upper part are a villa and large open spaces—an enchanting place with a marvellous view stretching towards the Apennines separating Campania from Apulia. The body below, which opens beyond two medieval-style gates rigorously crafted in solid wood, houses the actual production activity. A perfect blend of tradition and modern technology. The barrel vaults, which overlook the area destined to accommodate the ageing of the wine, are entirely covered in terracotta bricks and partly dug out of tuff.

These characteristics bring us back to an idea of a cellar close to the old "cellai" of rural farms, places that were used to store both wine and food. As a result, the processing room, where the winemaking machinery is located, the bottling and labelling room, the steel tanks and the warehouse for goods destined for marketing complete the cellar, ensuring a production potential of around two million bottles.

The company's team of food bloggers had the great honour of tasting and savouring several wines of the highest level, including Falanghina del Sannio 'Taburno', Sannio Fiano Doc, Sannio Greco Doc, Aglianico del Taburno DOCG, Sannio Piedirosso Doc, Rosato Aglianico del Taburno, Oro del Marchese Falanghina Extra Dry, Maleventum Falanghina Brut.
