||White sweet from withered grapes sweet
||A native Friulian vine, undoubtedly very ancient, already cultivated in the Roman imperial era, it had the honor of delighting the palates of popes and emperors. Among the Picolit admirers, there is also Carlo Goldoni, who defines this wine as the most enological gem of Friuli. Vine arrived today thanks to the work of Count Fabio Asquini of Fagagna who in 1700 saved this precious vine from a sure disappearance. It was the same Asquini who made it known to foreigners in markets of high prestige such as London, Paris, Genoa, Milan, Ancona. The Picolit was then appreciated and consumed not only in Italy, but also found among its great admirers the Court of France, the Papal Court and the same Kings of Sardinia, the Emperor of Austria and the Tsar of Russia. The Picolit is characterized by very limited production due to a particularity in the development of the berries that undergo a partial floral abortion, leaving the bunch scattered with smaller and sweeter berries. Today it is cultivated in the hills of Friuli Venezia Giulia, in the provinces of Udine and Gorizia. The 2006 vintage is the first to D.O.C.G. Colli Orentali del Friuli ˘ Picolit~: thanks to the recognition of the particular value, the Picolit is in fact the second D.O.C.G. of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region.
