||Sechet (sometimes written Secher) is a Premier Cru climat in the Chablis wine region. Located on southeast-facing slopes on the western side of the Serein river, the vineyard has a cool terroir that is widely considered one of the best in Chablis, producing taut, razor-sharp wines made from the Chardonnay grape variety. The vineyard overlooks the town of Chablis, sitting atop the hill that houses the Vaillons Premier Cru vineyard. Sechet is one of several vineyards on this hill that may invoke the Vaillons Premier Cru title instead of its own, Vaillons being the best-known name in the area.
||The Sechet vineyard has a more easterly aspect than many of the more southerly oriented vineyards in Vaillons. This means that the vines are exposed to gentle morning sun that is less intense than that felt on the steeper slopes to the west. Sechet has a cooler microclimate as a result, with a long, slow ripening period that allows the grapes to retain their characteristic acidity while still developing aromatic complexity.
||The soils are also an important consideration in Sechet. The light, sandy topsoil sits above Chablis' famous Kimmeridgian subsoil, a limestone-rich clay marl that is made up of tiny marine fossils. This soil is heavily credited with imparting minerality to Chablis wines, and can be found in most of the Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards in the region.
