Kurtatsch Schiava Sonntaler Alte Reben 2022
When the Romans in 15 B.C. ascended from the Po Valley towards Bozen and conquered Raetia, they found a wine culture that had existed for over 500 years. It is plausible to assume that Schiava, whose German name 'Vernatsch' is derived from the Latin 'vernaculus', i.e. 'indigenous', was already being cultivated at that time. The 'Sonntaler' is a blend of several Schiava varieties, with a high proportion of grey Schiava, and is cultivated in the oldest vineyards dating back to 1933 of the Kurtatsch Winery. These old vines naturally give modest harvests and are of very high quality.
