The origins of the Pecorino grape are uncertain. It is hypothesized to be related to high mountain pastures and the practice of transhumance. The only testimony of the presence of this stuffed grape lands shall be represented by a quotation from the Roman Cato, dating back to the second century BC, who ranked the grapes in one of his writings, along with other varieties of grapes belonging to the group of aminea, imported into Italy by the Greek population of Ammes.
