Veneto is one of Italy's largest wine-growing regions in the north-east in terms of both quantity produced and size. The region has numerous wineries with a total of 70,000 hectares dedicated to viticulture. The origins of vine cultivation are very old and date back to 1000 B.C. until the advent of the Roman Empire when it reached its peak with the use of innovative cultivation techniques.
