Climate and soil Siberia's climate is extremely continental with cold winters and long and short summers and quite hot, so the annual temperature range is very strong. In western Siberia the winter temperatures and the annual excursion are less accentuated than in central Siberia. So in Novosibirsk the average in January is -20 °C and 20 °C the average in July, with an annual range of 40 degrees, although the rains are mainly summer, the fall of snow is abundant and is maintained throughout the winter. The transition from winter to summer is rapid and accompanied by violent thunderstorms and thaw. In eastern Siberia, winters are longer and stiffer and January averages are lowered, so Irkutsk has an average of -20 °C, Čita -27,6 °C and Aldan -40 °C, while summer averages are 12 °C, 15 °C and 14 °C respectively. The rainfall is significantly lower than in western Siberia, ranging from 300 mm in the south to 150 mm in the Lena basin, and falls almost exclusively in the summer, with very little snow and superficially frozen soil.
History River pirates from Novgorod and fur hunters from the 11th century went along the Ob´ and up to the Arctic Ocean. After the annexation of Novgorod (15th century), the Moscow state became established in the NE region of European Russia. With the campaign against the Jugri and Voguli (1499-1502), Moscow's rule over Siberia began. The annexation of the Khānati of Kazan´ and Astrachan´ (1552-56) and the colonization of the Perm´ territories served as the basis for the victorious expedition of Ermak (1580-81), promoted by the Stroganov over the northern Urals. At the end of the 16th century the Russians reached the North Pacific coast; the exploration of the conquered territories began under Peter the Great. Russian troops occupied the territories south of the Stanovoi Mountains again in the 19th century: in 1858 the Aigun Treaty gave sovereignty to Moscow which, with the Peking Treaty (1860), also obtained the territories east of the Ussuri as far as the ocean. Used from the end of the 18th century as a place of exile for common and political prisoners, the construction of the Trans-Siberian railway (1891-1904) favoured its economic development, in particular its mining exploitation.
Typical dishes Pel'meni are one of the typical Russian dishes, particularly Siberian, of which there are several variations and preparations. They are large ravioli filled with meat or vegetables, often served in broth, tasty and nutritious as most of the typical Russian dishes. They are considered Russian tortellini, as they are very similar to our pasta.
