Summers are cool: the average temperature of the hottest month (July) varies between 11 °C in the north and 19 °C in the south. History	The history of Sweden is not very well known. The history of the country is, in fact, shrouded in the mists of time. Besides Norse mythology and Germanic legend, only a few historical sources describe the historical evolution of the country. Mentions to the country (Svear_ can be found already in Tacitus and his lineages of the Svions (Suiones). Other mentions of Swedes and Sweden can also be found in later authors such as Jordan and Procopius. Both referred explicitly to the Svions (Svear), a tribe (or peoples) in the province of Uppsala. Other mentions of other tribes that occupied the territories now belonging to Sweden were the Gauti, based on the south of Lake Vänern and the Skridfinni thought to have inhabited the northernmost part of Sweden. Populated by different races and divided into several small independent kingdoms, Sweden acquired a certain unity during the times of the Germanic tribes migration, when the kings of the Svear gradually extended their dominion toward the shores of the Baltic Sea and the Baltic islands. The first historical sources produced in Sweden date back to the 11th century. Up to that point, it is difficult to distinguish between the many myths and legends that characterise the Nordic countries, and historical events. The modern Swedish state was formed over a long period of unification that some historian set between the 6th and the 16th century. The Union didn't last long due to acts of resistance and rebellion from Denmark as well as Sweden. Nevertheless, since then, the country has declined to join an international alliances and has focused on maintaining its political stability and increase its population's wealth and well being.
Typical dishes	Perhaps the most popular dish are the svenska köttbullar, or meatballs with potatismos (mashed potatoes with butter, salt and a drop of milk), gräddsås (cream sauce) and lingonsylt (cranberry jam). But the Scandinavian food tradition is not limited to meatballs, salmon or the inevitable herring, whether smoked, fried, marinated or stewed. Swedish cuisine is closely linked to the atmosphere of the North.
