Botanical pharmacist Achille Foletto, a lieutenant at the military hospital in Riva sul Garda, used the language of botany to distill feelings of hope and revenge for his patients. The aromatic freshness of the Garda lemons, the floral elegance of the Trentino mountains and the herbaceous character of the Dolomite roots gave life to this refined bitter elixir. Transported by bicycle, it was secretly drunk by guests and soldiers in the basement of the hospital.
