The Glenlivet distillery is located in a wild and isolated region. The Glienlivet was founded by George Smith and it is said that King George V, in 1822, during his official visit to Scotland, expressly asked for a taste of his Whisky, which was still illegal at the time. George Smith, in fact, obtained the licence for the production of Whisky only in 1824, and The Glenlivet became the first distillery in the area to come out of illegality.
Today, after centuries of history, The Glenlivet distillery operates, in all, with 14 stills, faithful in shape and size to those originally designed by George Smith.
