Davide Fregonese Bugia Nen

In 2014, and then in 2016, Torinese businessman Davide Fregonese realised his dream of owning vineyards in both Piedmont’s Langhe region & on Sicily’s volcano, Mount Etna. This is thanks to his great friendship with Davide Rosso, one of Serralunga d’Alba’s famous sons, along with Luigi Vico, also of the same village. In buying tiny but perfectly sited plots in the vineyards of Prapò (0.5ha) & Cerretta (0.6ha) in Serralunga d’Alba, & that of 7.5ha Monte Dolce in the Etna village of Solicchiata, Davide Fregonese has created the Az. Vinicola estate Bugianen.

The name of Davide’s estate is derived from the Piedmontese dialect ‘Bugia Nen’, meaning ‘Don’t Move/Budge!’, & recalls the key battle of Aisetta in Italian-Piedmontese history when on 19th July 1747, 4,800 austro-piedmontese soldiers held back 400,000 French, thanks in part to the Piedmontese commander, Giovanni Battista Cacherano di Bricherasio’s order ‘Bugia Nen!’ Davide Fregonese suggests that his own determined character helped him pursue & complete the dream of owning land in arguably Italy’s finest two wine regions & villages.
