Raen Winery

Carlo and Dante Montavi represent the fourth generation of winemakers in the Mondavi family. Their father Tim, who planted the first rooted vines of Pinot Noir in the early seventies, was one of the pioneers of the variety in California and this thanks to his extraordinary passion and sense of admiration succeeded him in his first trips to Burgundy.

Carlo and Dante were born in California but carry out different (and fundamental) experiences in the old continent, both academic and working. In 2013 they found RAEN, acronym of "Research in Agriculture and Enology". Naturally" by declaring the aim of wanting to implement a form of agriculture that is sustainable and as natural as possible. The company produces a total of four labels, three of which are pure Pinor Noir and one Chardonnay. All these are obtained from the most suitable vineyards located on the westernmost slopes of the Sonoma Coast. The production style is inspired by the Burgundy model and involves the fermentation of whole bunches and the rigorous use of indigenous yeasts. On no wine is subjected to any type of invasive passage, for red wines no filtration or clarification.
